Emotional Freedom Technique

What is EFT?

The origins of this practice trace back over 5,000 years to Ancient China, where the meridian system was first identified and acupuncture was developed.

Tapping, or Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), is like an emotional form of acupuncture—except instead of needles, we use gentle tapping on specific points of the body.

EFT helps us release and transform how difficult emotions—such as hurt, guilt, fear, or anger—impact our daily lives.

When we experience emotional distress, feelings like worry, fear, or guilt can disrupt our inner sense of balance and harmony.

What if these emotions are actually signals, drawing our attention to something that needs care or acknowledgment?

EFT can be thought of as a way to reset our personal energy system—similar to how rebooting a computer can resolve glitches or crashes.

By tapping gently on key points, we allow our energy system to realign at a pace that feels right for us. As balance is restored, we often notice a shift—feeling calmer, more at ease, and at peace with the issue at hand.

Our mind, body, and emotions are deeply interconnected. When we apply EFT to something that’s troubling us, we can often feel an immediate shift—not just in our thoughts and emotions, but even in physical sensations like stress or tension.

Difficult emotions carry a distinct energy that we can sense, often as discomfort. As we tap, we can also feel this energy shift—moving from distress to relief.

EFT has been known to bring profound breakthroughs, even in situations where other methods have provided little to no relief. The sense of ease and healing it can offer is sometimes nothing short of remarkable.

How does EFT work?

EFT is based on tapping specific acupoints used in traditional acupuncture, which influence the body’s energy flow and stress response. Here’s what happens during the tapping process: Calming the Amygdala: The amygdala, the part of your brain responsible for triggering the stress response, reduces its activity, helping you feel calmer and more grounded. Lowering Cortisol Levels: Studies show EFT can lower cortisol, the stress hormone, by up to 43%, resulting in improved emotional and physical health. Rewiring Neural Pathways: Tapping while focusing on distressing emotions allows the brain to process and reconsolidate those memories, reducing their emotional charge and creating healthier thought patterns .
